What is available locally?
The Chilterns are only 7 miles away. They are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a great place
for walking, horse or bike riding. You can view the Prime Minister’s residence: Chequers or take a rest in one of the many pubs nestling in the Chilterns.
There are several National Trust properties close by:
Magnificent house and grounds in the style of a 16th-century French château
Built for the Rothschilds in the late 19th century
Brill is a great place to take the kids for an ice cream and a look at the windmill.
Quainton is the home of another windmill and the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre where you can take a steam train ride.
If you like Roald Dahl you have two choices: the Bucks County museum, in Aylesbury, where you can experience the Roald Dahl Children’s gallery, or the Roald Dahl museum in Great Missenden.
There are good swimming pools locally in Thame and Aylesbury.
If you like a beer there are five pubs to choose from in the village and many others in surrounding villages. The village holds an anual beer festival usually in July.
Aylesbury the county town of Buckinghamshire is 5 miles to the East. Ideal for modern shopping and historic buildings.
The attractive medieval market town of Thame is just three miles to the West, a great place for gift shopping and refreshment. It is also where you can find the local Waitrose supermarket.
Free parking in the town centre but beware of Tuesday which is market day and parking is limited.
What is available a little further a field?
- The dreaming spires of Oxford are just fourty five minutes away, an easy bus ride on the 280 that stops almost outside the door.
- All that London has to offer is just 50 minutes from Haddenham station. Trains run every half hour and take you direct to Marylebone.
- Bekonscot model village is about 40 minutes away, the world’s oldest model village.
- Whipsnade Wild Animal park is 25 miles away.
- Windsor is a great town to visit and only 30 miles away, the castle and the Great Park make excellent days out. Legoland is also in Windsor
- Stowe Landscape Gardens in the North of the county has spectacular views of over 40 grade 1 listed monuments.
- Claydon house with connections to Florence Nightingale, is another National Trust property. It is 20 miles to the north of Haddenham.
- Tring Natural History Museum is a really good place to visit with children and only 15 miles away.
- Milton Keynes a modern city with its snow dome, shopping malls and every other convenience - only 25 miles drive away through the rolling north Buckinghamshire countryside.
